Every football player, whether it is a beginner player or a professional, must know what are the positions in football. Each player position (goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker) has a specific place on the field. In the case of the goalkeeper, then everything is simple, but the rest of the lines have several subspecies that you will learn about right now.

The names of the positions of the players in football in Russian and English:

The goalkeeper is the only player in the team who, according to the rules, is allowed to play with his hands, but the keeper can only do this within the penalty area. There is only one goalkeeper on the field on each side. The shape of the collar should differ in color from the shape of field football players. You can also distinguish the goalkeeper from the field by the presence of gloves on him, which players with the role of “BP / GK” began to use in large quantities since 1970.

The main functions of the goalkeeper are to protect their own goal from the ball. Note that in modern football, frames are very much appreciated, knowing how to not only hit the balls, but also play great pass with teammates.

Football history knows a lot of upscale goalkeepers, and now we will list some of the most famous: Lev Yashin (by the way, the only goalkeeper who managed to win the Golden Ball), Oliver Kahn, Dida, Fabian Barthez, Gianluigi Buffon, Manuel Neuer, Iker Casillas, David De Gea.

The main duty of the defender is to take the ball away from the opponent, preventing him from hitting the goal. According to modern tactical constructions, clubs play with three, four or five defenders, and each defense member performs different functions.

Central defenders (CPUs) are located in the center of the penalty area line, as a rule, they are one of the highest members of the squad, as they often have to engage in air combat with attacking opponents. Also, tall central defenders are very often used by coaches in standard positions. Today, one of the most driven defenders in the world is Sergio Ramos. The Spaniard likes to go to someone else’s penalty area of the enemy, and quite often bows his head, replaying all opponents in a jump. Also, players playing positions (CPUs) should be tenacious, not inferior in martial arts to ram forwards and skillfully creep in tackles.

Flank / extreme defenders (KLZ, KPZ) usually have average height of the football player. They do not need to be as tall as the central defenders, as their job is to interrupt attacks going on the flanks, where they need to be quick and agile to withstand the technical attackers of the enemy. Also, a significant role flank defenders play in the attack of their team. In modern football, it is very difficult to attack without the support of extreme defenders.

The most striking examples of the best flank defenders are such personalities: Marcelo, Jordi Alba, Daniel Carvajal, Andrew Robertson, Kyle Walker, Cesar Aspilicueta.

Midfielders

Midfield is one of the most important positions in football. Players of this role should be the most efficient and hardy, as they have to have time to work out on the defensive and help partners in the attack ahead.

Teams use from 3 to 5 midfielders, building them in different formations. Some coaches line them up in one line, someone puts a rhombus or two in the back, three in front or vice versa. As in the case of the defenders, there are central and extreme midfielders, only here there are even more options for the role. There are simply central midfielders (CPUs), support ones (CSCs), flanks (LP / PPs, wingers, attackers) and playmakers.

Among all the midfielders, the most important role is played by the defensive ones, there can be two or one of them in a team, it all depends on the scheme. The work of the defensive midfielder is to secure and help defenders. The opornik must intercept and select the balls, as well as insure his defenders. Also, players playing in the “CSC” position must have a good first pass in order to be able to quickly rebuild the team’s game from defense to attack. To date, the top defensive midfielders of the world are N’Golo Cante, Mirale Pianic, Sergio Busquets, Fernandinho, Casemiro.

Forwards

The task of the attackers / forwards is quite simple to describe - they must score goals. In football, extreme and central strikers are singled out, and often, teams put up one, two or even three goalievers to play. Central forwards, as a rule, have large dimensions to push the same rather big central defenders of the opponent. Center forwards must have a good punch, be able to play the body, break away from rivals at speed, be skilled in the game on the second floor. As for the extreme attackers, for them the large dimensions are not the main thing, but the technique and speed for breakthroughs on the flanks is of great value.

And now we will list the best strikers in the history of football (current players will be taken into account, as well as those who have already completed their careers): Diego Maradona, Eisebio, Josef Bitsan, Pele, Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Andrey Shevchenko, Rud Van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney and of course, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
